Staff Positions Available
Our staff members will be responsible for the emotional and physical safety and welfare of more than 700 campers. We hire staff who are able to focus on safety, be positive role models, and facilitate personal growth and fun for our campers.
Minimum requirements
- At least 18 years old
- Completed one year of college, a gap year, or training in Adventure Treks’ Leadership Summit program
- Previous experience working with children
- Passion for working in the outdoors
- Ability to work with little time off and limited personal time
Live in a cabin with 8–10 campers as their mentor, role model, hero, and friend. Cabin counselors are responsible for the physical and emotional safety, comfort, hygiene, social interaction, program participation, and overall success of their campers. We have two different kinds of cabin counselors: general counselor and activity counselor.
General counselors are responsible for their cabin group during activity periods. They participate in all activities and monitor camper participation and success. General counselors will be trained in a specific activity area and will teach activities on weekends and during the second and third weeks of camp.
Activity counselors are also responsible for teaching a progression of activities for campers and must have previous experience in one of the following activities: swimming, canoeing, kayaking, stand up paddleboarding, archery, riflery, mountain biking, rock climbing, high ropes course, ecology, arts and crafts, theater, team sports, and/or racquet sports.
All cabin counselors must have a wilderness first aid certification or higher. We do offer wilderness first aid and CPR certification classes before staff orientation begins.
Trip leaders are a part of our out-of-cabin staff who lead outdoor activities and support our cabin counselors. Trip leaders must be at least 21 with a clean driving record. They help with off-camp logistics and driving, and lead hiking, biking, canoeing, and rock climbing trips. They are also responsible for supporting camp through their participation in our evening programs and special programming, cabin clean-ups, bedtime, and meals.
All applicants must have a current wilderness first responder certification or higher and experience in hiking, backpacking, mountain biking, canoeing, rock climbing, and/or whitewater rafting. Climbing trip leaders must have experience with climbing site management and belaying at a climbing gym and/or natural rock site. Climbing trip leaders are also preferred to hold a single pitch instructor certification.
Activity heads facilitate camp activities and support activity-specific counselors in their program areas. Division leaders support all counselors, help care for campers, and assist in planning special events and evening programs. Both activity heads and division leaders may be asked to support camp through tasks such as cleaning, organizing, and basic maintenance.
Activity heads and division leaders must have previous camp experience and experience supervising staff. Certain activity head positions require specific certifications.
Media interns are be responsible for managing all media outlets for the summer months. This includes documenting the summer via video and photo, uploading daily photo logs for parents, posting daily blogs for parents, managing all social media outlets, and creating videos for marketing purposes.
Media interns must be proficient in writing, editing, Photoshop, Adobe Premiere and social media. camp activities and support activity-specific counselors in their program areas.
The office intern works with the assistant director in the management of the summer office. This includes, but is not limited to, answering phones, corresponding with parents via email, collecting and organizing camper forms, organizing and inventorying the camp store, and other miscellaneous office tasks.
Media interns must be at least 21 years old and have spent one year prior at Camp Pinnacle.
The nurse intern will be supervised by a professional RN and participate in patient-centered nursing care.
Nurse interns must be enrolled in their final year in an accredited bachelor of science program as well as have completed a course in fundamental nursing skills.
Our camp nurses live in the health center and are on call for campers and staff 24/7 with the support of our camp doctor and directors. They are responsible for administering all medication and first aid to campers and staff. They are also responsible for preparing medications to go on all-day and overnight trips with campers. Nurses are encouraged to participate in special programming and events as it helps them become a closer part of the camp community.
Camp nurses must hold a current nursing license and be able to legally practice in North Carolina.
The perfect camp nanny is a mature, fun, responsible and caring individual cares for our Directors’ two children. Responsibilities include providing a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment, as well as preparing bottles/meals, feeding, bathing, dressing, changing diapers, and other usual nanny duties. While this positions’ main purpose is to care for the Director’s child, there will be opportunities for the camp nanny to join in during camp activities, evening programs, and some special events
Candidates must be flexible, adaptable, and happy to step in as required. Previous childcare experience and a valid driver’s license are required. The ideal candidate is available to live on site and excited about being involved in all aspects of camp.
