After a long and intensive search for our newest member of the leadership team, we are excited to introduce you all to our assistant director, Walker Hendry! Walker comes to us from Austin, TX, where he worked for Explore Austin, a youth mentoring and outdoor leadership non-profit. He is originally from the southeast, however, and has lived in Clemson, SC, Knoxville, TN, and, where he calls home, Savannah,

Walker’s passion for the outdoors was ignited in high school when he took a 10-day canoe trip to the Quetico, the Canadian side of the boundary waters. That experience inspired Walker to study outdoor education at Georgia College in Milledgeville, GA. During college summers, Walker was a counselor at Falling Creek Camp, where he discovered  the importance of community and fell in love with camp. During his time at Falling Creek, Walker was on the paddle staff and spent many of his days on the rivers of western North Carolina.

Walker was also an Adventure Treks instructor and was introduced to many of the values and traditions of Camp Pinnacle, which he is excited to share with campers and counselors this summer. Walker has an extensive background in wilderness medicine and safety management, becoming a wilderness first responder in 2010 and holding a current certification.

As a member of the leadership team, Walker will have a diverse role at camp. Among other things, he will be responsible for the supervision and management of the boys’ side of camp, traveling and conducting fall and spring info sessions, and assisting in day-to-day operations. With his background in youth programming, community relations, and staff and volunteer recruitment, we are confident in Walker’s ability to positively contribute to the overall camp experience for our campers, parents, and staff.

Walker joins camp with his wonderful partner, Sara Jane, and his two springer spaniels, Dylan and Wyatt. He enjoys playing guitar—you may see him down at Lakeside playing a few songs! He is excited to throw Frisbees and catch fish with as many campers and counselors as he can, and can’t wait to meet our families this summer.

Please join us in saying, welcome to camp, Walker!
