We are in full swing preparing for camp: Our facilities team is running full-steam ahead to fine-tune camp before session 1, and perhaps most important of all, our counselors and staff have arrived! Orientation for all of our counselors begins June 1, but many are here and taking lifeguarding, Wilderness First Aid, and other certification courses before camp opens. Out of our 55 counselors:
- 40 percent are returning from previous years
- Average cabin counselor age is 20
- Average overall counselor age is 24
We have the most comprehensive and rigorous hiring process of any camp we know of, and our counselors come from great colleges, including:
- Yale University
- Harvard University
- Northwestern University
- Duke University
- University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
- Tulane University
- Colorado College
- James Madison University
- Ithaca College
- University of Colorado at Boulder
- and many more!
Our outdoor trip leaders arrived last week for separate outdoor-specific training; they’ve been off backpacking, canoeing, hiking, and rock climbing. Our main two-week orientation begins this week, where we bond as a staff team and build a close-knit community, review safety policies and procedures, go over youth development and the outdoors, and many other topics to meet our goal of making our campers’ summer experiences exceptional! (More to come on staff orientation next week!)
