Happy Fourth of July from Camp Pinnacle!
Today was one of the most exciting days of the summer as our camp community came together to celebrate Independence Day and an incredible milestone—250 years of America! From the moment campers woke up, the day was packed with patriotic spirit, sunshine, laughter, and unforgettable memories. As we officially reach the halfway point of our two-week session, it’s hard to believe just how much our campers have already experienced—and there’s still another week of adventure to come!
After a busy first week, campers enjoyed a well-deserved late wake-up this morning. At 8:30 a.m., the familiar wake-up bell rang, but instead of the usual morning sounds, classic American songs echoed throughout camp, creating a fun and festive atmosphere as everyone slowly got ready for the day. It was also laundry day, so before breakfast, campers dropped off their laundry bags knowing they’d soon have a fresh set of clothes ready for the second half of camp.
One of the highlights of the morning was seeing every camper proudly dressed in their brand-new Camp Pinnacle Fourth of July shirts. Camp was a sea of red, white, and blue as cabins gathered together for photos and prepared for a full day of celebrations.
Breakfast was served at 9:15 a.m., and our kitchen team certainly didn’t disappoint! Campers enjoyed chocolate croissants, fluffy scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, fresh fruit salad, cereal, and plenty of other breakfast favorites to fuel them for the exciting day ahead.
At 10:00 a.m., everyone made their way down to the lakeside for a patriotic morning assembly unlike any other. The entire camp proudly stood together to sing The Star-Spangled Banner, celebrating America’s 250th birthday in true Camp Pinnacle fashion. There was plenty of dancing, energetic roll calls from each cabin, and lots of laughter as counselors took the plunge into the lake to cool off. Our head counselors also entertained everyone with a hilarious reenactment of the latest World Cup results, earning plenty of cheers from campers. The competition continued as cabins performed their creative Fourth of July-themed roll calls, with Wolfepack Year 1 taking home Rick the Stick after an outstanding American-inspired version of ‘The Rattlin’ Bog’.
The celebration only got bigger as camp transformed into our annual Fourth of July Carnival at 10:30 a.m. Everywhere you looked there was something happening. Campers raced through bouncy houses, tested their aim at the dunk tank, cooled off with refreshing snow cones and homemade lemonade, and enjoyed fresh chicken and waffles prepared just for the occasion. There was face painting, exciting field games, country line dancing, and a photo booth where friends captured memories from one of the biggest days of the summer. With bright sunshine, blue skies, and smiling faces everywhere, it truly felt like the perfect Independence Day celebration.
After the carnival, campers returned to their cabins to drop off their funky flair and cool down before enjoying a delicious lunch. Today’s menu featured crispy fried chicken sandwiches, homemade hot chips, juicy watermelon slices, and our always-popular salad bar. Following lunch, everyone enjoyed a relaxing downtime, giving campers the opportunity to rest, write letters home, chat with cabin mates, or simply recharge before another busy afternoon.
At 2:15 p.m., it was time for one of the most anticipated parts of camp—C-Days! These special afternoons allow campers to choose three different activities based on their own interests while meeting campers from other cabins and age groups. Whether they wanted to cast a line while fishing, swim out to the flagpole, challenge themselves in Grandma Training, laugh through Junior Noodle People, dance during Zumba, or cheer on their favorite teams during a World Cup watch party, there truly was something for everyone. C-Days continue to be a fantastic way for campers to build new friendships while trying activities they may never have experienced before.
Following the afternoon adventures, everyone gathered in the Shadium for a refreshing fruit break before heading outside once again for a delicious buffet burrito bowl cookout at 6:00 p.m. Campers spread blankets across the lawn, enjoyed the warm summer evening together, tucked in to some homemade banana pudding for dessert and shared stories from another action-packed day while soaking up the last of the sunshine.
As evening arrived, our younger cohorts jumped into an exciting game of Fort Defenders. This evening program has campers working together, solving challenges, and defending their forts through teamwork and strategy. Also on the ballfield, our older cohorts took part in Cat American Flags, where each color team worked hard to protect their beloved fluffy cat mascot while attempting to capture opposing flags. The games were filled with laughter, encouragement, and just the right amount of friendly competition.
To finish such a memorable day, cabins quietly changed into their pajamas before sneaking out together under the evening sky. Campers gathered on the front lawn and along the waterfront, sitting shoulder to shoulder with their cabin mates as dazzling fireworks lit up the lake. Reflections danced across the water while cheers echoed through camp, creating one of those magical summer moments that campers will remember for years to come.
As we reach the halfway point of camp, we continue to be amazed by how much our campers have grown in just one week. They are stepping outside their comfort zones, making new friends, learning new skills, and embracing every opportunity that camp has to offer. Thank you for allowing us to be part of your camper’s summer story. We are so excited for everything still to come during the second half of camp!
