As Session 4 begins to wind down, there’s a special kind of excitement around Camp Pinnacle. Campers know they’re making the most of every moment, and our staff are doing everything they can to ensure the final days of the 2026 summer are packed with unforgettable memories.
The day began with our usual 7:30 a.m. wake-up bell for most of camp, while our rafting cabins were up bright and early for a 7:00 a.m. breakfast before heading off on their adventures. Looking Glass, Shining Rock, Bearpen, Turkey Pen, Hiwasse, Tuckasegee, Nantahala, Chattooga, Nolichucky, Tallulah, Ocoee, Fontana, and Toxaway all climbed into the vans with their counselors, grabbed their Baggy Bar lunches, and set off toward either the Nantahala River or the Pigeon River. The drives are always part of the adventure, filled with singing, laughter, and incredible views of the Blue Ridge Mountains before an action-packed day on the water.
Back at camp, everyone else started the morning by tidying their cabins before heading to breakfast at 8:15. Campers enjoyed hash browns, sausage patties, waffles with syrup, fresh fruit, granola, and yogurt before gathering for a quieter-than-usual Lakeside while many cabins were away rafting.
Even with fewer campers gathered around the lake, Lakeside was full of energy. Cabins performed their morning roll calls, with Panthertown taking home the win thanks to a creative performance built around a card game that had everyone laughing. Campers also learned a new song, danced together, and one lucky camper won their very own pool noodle during today’s round of “What’s in the Box?” It was another reminder that some of camp’s simplest traditions often become the most memorable.
The morning continued with activity periods before campers enjoyed one final Hypetivity of the summer at 11:30. Since this was the last opportunity for Session 4 campers to earn patches, everyone was eager to fit in one more adventure. Whether it was swimming out to the flagpole, playing mini golf in Putt Putt Valley, competing in pickleball or gaga ball, heading out mountain biking, trying riflery, exploring nature, sailing tiny boats, or countless other options, campers made every minute count.
Lunch was a Baggy Bar favorite featuring homemade chicken salad, egg salad, tuna salad, deli meats, cheeses, fresh salads, and plenty of fun dips before campers enjoyed some well-earned downtime.
The afternoon brought the final three activity periods of the summer. While heavy rainfall meant the waterfront, climbing, and Sky Park had to close temporarily, camp quickly adapted—as it always does. Cabins filled indoor spaces with dance parties, ball games, and plenty of laughs, proving that a little rain never gets in the way of having fun at Camp Pinnacle. Meanwhile, our rafting groups returned full of stories from the river, with many campers happily catching a quick nap during the scenic drive back to camp after an exciting day outdoors.
After a fruit break in the gym, the skies began to clear just in time for Gym & Swim before dinner, allowing campers to enjoy some sunshine once again. Dinner featured hearty, creamy chicken legs, mashed sweet potato, cornbread muffins, collard greens and gooey monkey bread for dessert – giving everyone plenty of energy for the night ahead.
Due to tonight’s weather, we had to do a quick pivot with our evening program. Luckily, our amazing Special Events Coordinators Krithi and Neko have always got something up their sleeve. Rather than Gold Rush, campers competed in the Pinnacle Cup Olympics where they completed a set of challenges and minigames to determine the winner. These included things like ‘Name That Tune’, ‘Guess the Counselor’, and finally an intense Shoe Relay between our youngest cohorts the Squirrels and Chipmunks. After a nail biting couple of hours, the blue team secured their win, earning additional points for the Pinnacle Cup!
As campers headed back to their cabins for lights out, there was definitely a feeling that something exciting is just around the corner. Tomorrow is one of the most anticipated days of the session, and while we’re keeping the details a surprise for now, we can promise it’s a day your campers won’t forget. As we prepare to close out an incredible Summer 2026 together, we’re making sure every last moment is filled with fun, friendship, and memories that will stay with our campers long after they head home.
