The sun has been shining for a brilliant Monday here at Camp Pinnacle!
As we are in full swing for Week Two of Session Four, camp woke up at 7:30 a.m. to get ready for the day ahead. Campers also tidied their cabins for the daily inspection by the head counselors. They were able to earn ice cream sandwiches for the first five Check Pluses they received, and they can earn another prize if they continue on to collect five more Check Pluses. It wasn’t long until our second bell of the day rang, and it was time for breakfast at 8:15 a.m. This morning, campers enjoyed eggs, French toast sticks, potato bites, fruit, and cereal.
Lakeside was back to its normal time today at 9:00 a.m. as we all gathered in front of Wolfelake. BOSS (Bag Of Some Stuff) was back and ready to judge all of our roll calls this morning. It has been great to see that, over the last week, campers have become more confident speaking or singing in front of our amazing community to show off their talents. Only one cabin could be added to BOSS today, and the lucky winners were Eagle Rock! That wasn’t the only talent on display this morning. One of our impressive C-Days taught some of our campers how to memorize the first twenty digits of pi. They were able to show off this skill, and to celebrate this incredible achievement, they got to pie the counselors who taught them.
At 9:30 a.m., for most of us, it was time to begin the final Monday of activities of the summer. However, our Year One WolfePack headed out on their Leadership Backpack. This backpacking trip is different from our Camper One Backpack because the WolfePack plans and packs everything they need while leading the hike themselves. Opportunities like this help our young leaders develop resilience when challenges arise and encourage them to keep pushing forward. It also brings the group together as they work as a team to complete the backpacking trip. Over the next three days, they will be supported by their two counselors and trip leaders.
There was so much fun that the lunch bell at 12:30 p.m. seemed to come around in no time. Today’s lunch featured burgers and hot dogs with sides of macaroni and cheese, baked beans, and coleslaw, leaving everyone refueled for the afternoon ahead.
As our Chipmunks, Squirrels, Honey Badgers, and Koyotes enjoyed the final three activity periods of the day, our Bears and Otters returned from their Explore Trips! These trips are activity-focused and include options such as mountain biking, SUPing, kite flying, and several other adventures that campers can choose from while exploring beyond camp. They are another great opportunity for campers to experience new activities while spending time away from camp.
For dinner tonight at 6:30 p.m., we were treated to tomato pasta with meatballs, served with vegetables and garlic knots. Dessert was a crowd favorite: tiramisu, which was enjoyed by many of our campers. Everyone made sure to fill up before Extra Potatoes!
Tonight’s evening program was one of our most electric yet: Square Dance! One of the exciting changes for Session Four has been an all-camp Square Dance. Everyone put on their best cowboy or cowgirl funky flair. Campers had so much fun laughing, dancing with friends, and learning new dance moves. It was a wonderful way to bring everyone together while enjoying lemonade and corn. After such an exciting evening, it was time to head back to the cabins for some well-earned rest.
We all can’t wait to see what tomorrow has in store!
