Back with another exciting day here at Camp Pinnacle!
We’re almost halfway through our second session of the summer, and our campers are super excited as the weekend approaches! Weekends for us mean camper Choice Days are the new schedule. And it means exactly as the name says! On weekends, our campers get to choose from a variety of new, unique and creative activities hosted by our counselors, choosing 3 activities to do per day. These range anywhere from embroidery with Executive Director Fayssoux herself, raft building at the lake or even water gun tie-dying down at arts and crafts! The campers all have a blast going around and selecting their activities, as well as waking up on Saturday morning, knowing they’re doing just what they want all day.
The day went as usual in the morning, following the routine of a 7:30am wakeup, getting ready by cleaning cabins, making beds and washing up to kick off the day! Breakfast was our usual bacon, eggs and muffins, along with fruit and granola or cereal, eaten family style, starting with an inspirational quote from our Associate Director Amanda, before finally getting to dig in! It was straight to Lakeside from there, singing our ‘Good Morning’ song to wake everyone back up, playing a fun game of ‘Heads or Tails’ to find the luckiest camper on camp and presenting our cabin roll calls for the day. Today, it was Shining Rock who took the win, with a rendition of a classic camp song ‘there are no bananas in the sky’.
Periods one and two saw campers down at the waterfront, some learning how to roll in a tiny boat, others getting hyped at volleyball. Others were up in the skypark, conquering fears, or down in the theatre practicing for Sunday’s Evening Programme! Hypetivity at 11:35am, where campers get to go to a select few open activities to build up more confidence in their favourite areas. Lunch today was pizza! All of the campers loved queuing up and choosing their slices, with some delicious pasta as a side, with the salad bar open too. Downtime gave our campers time to relax, top up on drinking their water to stay hydrated, and catch up on some sleep with a quick nap! It was also a great hour to just get out of the sun. The heat has been picking up here at camp, but it has only made things better! Campers look forward to their afternoon activities knowing they will more than likely be getting ice pops delivered straight to them as they continue playing and learning out in the sun.
Third, fourth and fifth periods all saw exactly that, with support staff delivering ice pops to campers all around camp. While most cabins were out on the lake, paddleboarding, kayaking or canoeing, others were out playing soccer, basketball and disc golf, figuring out which activity they want to earn their patches in. Patches at Camp Pinnacle are a great way to boost campers confidence and skills in an activity of their choosing, with a certain requirement they have to beat. For example, to earn your pickleball patch, you have to play against the pickleball counsellor, and win. Patches are announced at Dinner, with the awarding counselor calling those that earned the patch up for a photo. At the end of the session, staff hold a patch party, where campers can bring their patches and iron them onto their CP hats! Which leads us into fruit break! Fruit break today was held in the Shadium, as the gym was hosting C-Day signups. Cabins waited patiently, eating their fruit before being called down by cohort to choose their activities for C-Days.
Dinner was Cuban style! We feasted on shredded pork,seasoned rice and plantains with a selection of refreshing drinks. Our kitchen staff work so hard all summer to provide our campers with the best, nutritious food possible, keeping everyone energised for the long but exciting days all session. Our announcement for Evening Programme at dinner was electric tonight, with staff marching in with coloured flags, marking the beginning of the Pinnacle Cup! ‘The Reaping’ took place in the gym, with all campers arriving in black, white or grey clothing to be assigned their team colour. Staff were first chosen, with names and teams being called aloud for everyone to hear. Then it was time for campers, all being equally split between Green, Red and Blue.
It was time for a few quick games to kick off the start of the CP Cup, before campers finally went back to cabins, washing up, cleaning off their facepaint and tucking in to bed for the night. Let the games commence!
