As the final full day of Session 3 arrived, camp woke up to the familiar 7:30 wake-up bell, and there was a buzz of excitement in the air. Campers tackled their morning cabin clean-up routines like pros—it’s amazing how much confidence and independence they built over two weeks, and by now everyone knows exactly how to work together to get their cabin looking its best. With Pinnacle Cup Day finally here, there was plenty of anticipation as everyone wondered which color team would be crowned this session’s champion.
Breakfast at 8:15 fueled everyone up for the big day with ham and cheese croissants, crispy bacon, home fries, fresh fruit, and cereal. While rain was in the forecast, our staff had backup plans ready to go so that no matter what Mother Nature decided, campers would have an incredible final day together. Thankfully, those plans stayed tucked away for most of the morning as the weather cooperated just when we needed it to.
At 9:00, our staff gathered briefly to review camp clean-up, packing procedures, and reflect on what has been another truly special session. Meanwhile, our head counselors stayed with campers in the dining hall to complete camper evaluations. These are always a favorite tradition, giving campers the opportunity to look back on the past two weeks, share their favorite activities, celebrate friendships they’ve made, and offer feedback that helps make Camp Pinnacle even better each summer.
Shortly after, the entire camp gathered for one of our favorite traditions—Silent Lakeside. Between the fun lost and found auction, color captain games and challenges, plenty of laughter, and singing our famous Good Morning Song, excitement continued to build. You could feel the energy growing as campers cheered for their teams and prepared for the biggest event of the session.
At 10:00, each color team headed to their designated hype circle. These circles are full of singing, chanting, encouragement, and teamwork as campers get organized for the relay ahead. Every camper is given a relay station they feel confident completing, ensuring everyone plays an important role. Whether they were swimming, paddleboarding, solving sudoku puzzles, passing hula hoops, playing pickleball, or tackling one of the many other relay challenges, every camper contributed to their team’s success. Each participant also wore a wristband identifying their station, helping the relay flow smoothly from start to finish.
Luckily, the weather held just long enough, and at 10:15 the Pinnacle Cup Relay officially began. With a burst of colorful smoke rising over the ball field, the race was on! Color captains sprinted alongside their teammates, encouraging every participant as the relay wound its way across nearly every corner of camp—from the ball field to archery, through the dining hall, down the front lawn, to the waterfront, and finally to the Council Ring for the grand finale.
The last challenge is always one of the most exciting. Each color team gathered together for one final roll call before lighting their fire. The team whose fire burned through the rope the fastest claimed victory in the relay itself, but the Pinnacle Cup is about much more than one race. Throughout the past two weeks, points have been earned through games, challenges, teamwork, and friendly competition. Our directors and support team also recognize the color team that consistently demonstrates the greatest sportsmanship, encouragement, and camp spirit.
This year, those efforts paid off for the Green Team, who proudly earned the Pinnacle Cup! Their captains and lieutenants celebrated in true Camp Pinnacle fashion by jumping into the lake, and Green now has their color permanently added to the Pinnacle Cup—a lasting reminder of an incredible session filled with teamwork, perseverance, and positivity.
After such an exciting morning, lunch was well deserved. Our Wolfe Pack campers celebrated together with a pizza party in the gym, while the rest of camp enjoyed a delicious Greek lunch featuring pita breads, grilled chicken, kebab meat, fresh salad, and homemade tzatziki. Campers who earned all Check Pluses throughout the entire two weeks were also rewarded with make-your-own ice cream sundaes—a sweet way to recognize consistent effort, responsibility, and positive cabin living.
The afternoon was filled with meaningful moments as cabins gathered one final time for their session photos before beginning to pack up belongings and work together during our all-camp clean-up. It’s always wonderful to see campers taking pride in leaving camp just as beautiful as they found it while reminiscing about all the adventures they’ve shared together.
Although afternoon rain meant we couldn’t hold our traditional Mountain Beach Party, campers embraced the change with the same flexibility and enthusiasm they’ve shown all session. The gym came alive with games, the lodge echoed with karaoke performances, board games filled the Shadium with laughter, and friends enjoyed spending every last minute together before tomorrow’s goodbyes.
Dinner brought one final cozy gathering around the tables for our annual “Cook In.” Campers enjoyed hearty ribs, brisket, potato salad, watermelon and all the comforting flavors that make this meal such a favorite. It was the perfect chance to reflect on the memories made over the past two weeks.
As the sun began to set, everyone made their way to Closing Campfire—one of the most meaningful traditions of the session. On this occasion our closing campfire was held in the Shadium instead of the Council Ring, due to the rain. Campers received special gifts recognizing the number of summers they’ve spent at Camp Pinnacle, celebrating the lasting connection they have built with this place. Our three-year campers proudly received their Camp Pinnacle branded paddles, a cherished keepsake representing their dedication and growth.
For our Wolfe Pack Year 3 campers, the evening carried even more significance as they shared their final goodbyes and closed an unforgettable chapter of their Camp Pinnacle journey. There were smiles, laughter, hugs, and certainly a few happy tears as campers reflected on friendships that will continue long after summer ends.
Tomorrow you’ll be reunited with your camper, and while you may notice they’re a little more tired than when they arrived, we think you’ll also notice something else. They’ll come home with new confidence, stronger friendships, greater independence, and countless stories they can’t wait to tell you. Thank you for trusting us with your children these past two weeks—it has been an absolute joy watching them grow, laugh, challenge themselves, and make memories that will last a lifetime.
