Happy Friday from Camp Pinnacle!

As we came to the close of our last full day of activities of Week One, we woke up to the bell ringing at 7:30 a.m. to start cleaning cabins and getting ready for the day ahead by looking at the cabin schedules. While looking at the cabin schedules, campers checked the check board to make sure they were collecting as many check-pluses as possible for a prize. All the running about then led into the second bell of the day ringing, meaning it was breakfast at 8:15 a.m. This morning’s family-style breakfast was cinnamon rolls, eggs, bacon, with plenty of cereal, fruit, granola, and yogurt to start our day off right!

Lakeside started at 9:00 a.m., and campers could be seen skipping down to the benches, eager to see what our Head Counselors had in store for us. As normal, roll calls were the first thing on the agenda. The talent has continued to blow ‘BOSS’ away every morning, and it struggles to pick a winner because of how creative each cabin has become. But one cabin was able to add to BOSS, and that was Noliochuky! Everyone is excited to see what they will add next. At Lakeside, we like to celebrate those who show the Camp Pinnacle 5 R’s all the time. We celebrate this by letting campers print their hand onto the CP 5 R Staff. The kind words spoken about them by their counselors show the whole camp just how much of a role model that camper is. Well done for showing how the world can look and for becoming part of CP history!

Our first two started promptly at 9:30 a.m. for most cabins as they enjoyed activities such as the waterfront, paddles, mountain biking, target sports, and many other thrilling adventures. Our Chipmunks and oldest Koyotes, however, all headed out on their day hikes! Our brilliant trip leaders took each cabin into the beautiful mountains of North Carolina, learning all about nature and making unforgettable memories with their cabin. Each cabin returned just before Gym and Swim, with every camper arriving back sporting the biggest smile and ready to tell the rest of CP all about their adventures.

Lunch was much needed after all our hard work here at camp. At 12:30 p.m., we enjoyed a buffet-style lunch of pizza! Campers could choose between cheese or pepperoni pizza, served with kale salad. Our salad bar was also available to make sure everyone had plenty to refuel with.

Second, Third, and Fourth Periods were a blast, with some amazing activities in the sunshine. Campers remembered to drink plenty of water throughout the day and reapply sunscreen to keep everyone safe! Fruit Break gave everyone a chance to enjoy a quick snack before heading to Gym and Swim!

Today, however, was slightly different, as there was no traditional Gym and Swim. Throughout Saturday and Sunday, campers enjoy Camper Choice Days (C-Days), so we use Friday’s Gym and Swim period to let them choose the activities they would like to take part in over the three available periods. These activities are not normally offered and include choices such as How to Be Scottish 101, Jewelry Making, Line Dancing, and Bedazzling 101. There is so much to choose from that it is wonderful to see our campers enjoying so many different experiences.

At 6:30 p.m., the last bell of the day rang for dinner. Our family-style meal tonight was meatloaf with tomato sauce, green beans, mashed potatoes, and bread rolls. Everyone was especially excited to see a no-forks dessert of sugar cookies. One very special camper celebrated their birthday with us today, and the only way we know how to celebrate at CP is with “Happy Birthday” Pinnacle-style, followed by birthday cake to top it all off!

Tonight’s Evening Program was the most serious of them all: The Reaping! A tradition all campers eagerly await is the Pinnacle Cup, and The Reaping marks the official start of the games. Each camper walked into the gym, eagerly awaiting the moment they would discover whether they would be on the Blue, Green, or Red Team. Wolfe Pack members were also selected as lieutenants for their color teams. After they leave the gym in team and compete for the first points of the Cup.

It was then time to recharge for Saturday. We can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!
